More Ammonia (NH3) creates toxic environment for your koi fish very first with damaging their gills this is easily absorb to your body & internal immunity system with some special organs will be damage like kidneys. If the ammonia level come to 0.4 ppm it can create severe damage for the koi fish.
And your koi fish becomes more lethargic if this run long term with over ammonia level more than 0.25 ppm, it creates some diseases like sleeping disease. They lose their appetite, gasp for air at the water surface or lie at the bottom of the pond.
Then we come to their external body some of their body areas can be easily burns & their colorfulness can be erase because of the toxicity of the environment like ammonia level in 0.25 ppm. This can be happened two ways one is external skin damage & other one is, fish becomes stress their colors become fading or some times remove beautiful color patches with timely from their body. And also their amazing fins can be rotten, often appearing as red streaks within skin.

If the ammonia level becomes high (NH3 0.4 ppm) before it makes toxic to the fish please reduce water from your pond if the toxicity is low reduce 3/4 of the pond water & gradually add clear water except chlorinated water.
If the ammonia level come to intermediate danger level (NH3 0.25 ppm) reduce ½ of the water from pond & gradually add clear water except chlorinated water.
